Cowboy boots, Southern roots and generations of love.
Earlier this summer I headed to Albany, Georgia for the Cromartie family reunion — a weekend of food, faith, and a little Cowboy Carter flair. My camera stayed ready as more than 50 relatives showed up to reconnect, celebrate, and carry on tradition. It was shaping up to be the kind of weekend that deserved to be documented from start to finish.
“Family reunion. It's so nice to come together. To get together.”
From July 18 - 20 more than 50 of my relatives would make the trip from Florida, Georgia and beyond for a weekend full of shared moments you only get when family shows up.
“Looking at people who belong to us, we see the past, present and future.”
On Saturday we gathered at Commodore Conyers College and Career Academy, where my cousin Angie hosted the day’s events. A red-carpet runway gave everyone — young and seasoned — a chance to shine in their Cowboy Carter–inspired looks, and my camera stayed on, catching everything from bold struts to quiet side conversations.
“Together is a beautiful place to be.”
By Sunday morning the doors of Mount Zion Baptist Church opened and the pews filled with family. Auntie Diane introduced us to the congregation, the choir sang, Pastor Simmons preached, and I closed the weekend with one last parting shot of my family.
“Closing out the weekend grounded in the same faith that’s carried our family through generations.”
And because IYKYK — I slipped in a quick photoshoot for myself. Just a small moment where fashion met photography, leaving my personal stamp on a weekend otherwise all about family.
Family is the soil, memory is the water, and love is the sunlight — that’s how roots grow strong.
